Editors Trip 2009
The German Book Office is proud to announce the participants for the 2009 Editors Trip
The tenth German Book Office’s Editors Trip will take place from March 15th to the 21st, 2009. This year’s trip is being coordinated with Geisteswissenschaften International: Translation Funding for Work of Humanities and Social Sciences, and will be focusing on humanities and social sciences. The participants are Emily-Jane Cohen, Acquisitions Editor, Stanford University Press; Lara Heimert, Vice President and Editorial Director, Basic Books; Kathleen Keane, Director, John Hopkins University Press; Rob Sanders, Publisher, Greystone Canada; Philip Cercone, Executive Director, McGill-Queen’s University Press, Canada; Ruediger Wischenbart, Journalist; and the group will be accompanied by Riky Stock, Director of the German Book Office.
The participants will spend the 15th through the 18th in Munich visiting the publishing houses C.H. Beck, Carl Hanser Verlag, and the remainder of the week in Frankfurt visiting Suhrkamp, S. Fischer, and Campus Verlag. The group will also visit a bookstore, and participate in a panel on digital publishing. They will tour the National Library in Frankfurt, sit in at round table discussions concerning the various fields of non-fiction literature, visit the Institut for Social Research and participate in “speed dating” style business meetings. Along with these formal meetings, they will also have the opportunity to meet and mingle with German publishers informally.
The goal of this trip is that the participants will return back to the USA and Canada with a new understanding of non-fiction publishing in Germany, and a host of new, personal contacts to help facilitate trans-Atlantic cooperation.
