Reading to Savour: Premiere of the Gourmet Gallery

Presentation of international food & wine publishers in Hall 5.0

La dolce vita will be on full display in Hall 5.0. This year, for the first time, the Frankfurt Book Fair (14 – 18 October) is providing gourmet publishing houses and epicurean suppliers their very own platform.

Cook book publishers and publishers of food and lifestyle magazines will present their wares in an exhibition space of over 400 square meters, which is centrally located beside the Congress Centre. They will be joined by representatives of various wine-growing regions and institutions in the field of gastronomy. Live appearances by celebrity chefs and VIP guests are on the agenda, as are wine-tasting sessions and a selection of delicious morsels. There are also plans for a program of special events for trade visitors, booksellers and the general public.

Quiet nights at home, cooking, and connoisseurship – "living the good life" is in. Cooking is celebrated as a social event and cookery shows have never been as popular. The growing importance of having good things to eat and drink is also reflected in the world of books and publishing. With a market share of 21 percent, titles on food and drink lead the field in how-to publications. Around 8,248 titles are available in Germany on these topics, and according to the trade magazine The Bookseller, the food & drink category in Britain finished 2008 with a total value of 78.5 million pounds. Digital and cross-media projects relating to cooking are increasingly appearing on the scene. Publishing companies are expanding their online presences and booksellers are discovering gourmet products like luxury chocolate beverages, tea and coffee specialties or wine as an additional source of revenue.

But for the culinary supply sector, the book trade is still a largely unexplored market. "The new international Gourmet Gallery area is intended to create a platform at the Book Fair for presenting current trends and a forum for new partnerships,” according to Juergen Boos, Director of the Frankfurt Book Fair.

Exhibitors can register until 12 August 2009, further information is available to you at the website.
