Every Man Dies Alone Makes New York Times List
Fallada Translation Selected as Notable Book of 2009
Hans Fallada’s Every Man Dies Alone, published by Melville House in 2009, has been named one of the most notable books of 2009 by the New York Times. Touted as a “signal literary event” in the NY Times Book Review (Liesl Schilling, February 2009), the wartime novel has been garnering praise and making its mark on the US literary scene since its publication last Spring. Its appearance on the New York Times list, noticeably lacking in foreign authors, is a testament to both the significance of the work and talent of its translator.
Every Man Dies Alone was translated by poet and translator Michael Hofmann. The original German version was published in 1947.
